he site's name is derived from the famous expression attributed to Bernard of Chartres: "[He] used to say that we are like dwarfs on the shoulders of giants, so that we can see more than they, and things at a greater distance, not by virtue of any sharpness of sight on our part, or any physical distinction, but because we are carried high and raised up by their giant size."¹ This perfectly describes the sentiment I have towards those brilliant minds whose writings I have the privilege of reading as often as I please.

The theme of standing on the shoulders of giants guided the design of the website. I intended to de-emphasize my own commentary in light of the giants on whose shoulders I am standing. Thus, their insight appears in bold print on the front page in lieu of mine.

I started this site in 2009 as my latest attempt at having a website worth maintaining. I had tried micro/blogging a few times but quickly lost interest. I think, ultimately, that I don't view myself as important enough to merit having my capricious ramblings being seen as significant to the general public.

However, I read plenty of people who - in my mind - have statements and thoughts that are worth repetition and meditation. This website is an attempt at re-voicing these statements as I come across them.
